My name is Sara (no, saying “duh” out loud won’t offend me). I actually created this blog thing awhile ago, but until recently I felt like I had nothing to say.
I used to be a writer, or what I deemed a writer. I’m not even sure I was a writer, but it felt like I might be. I wrote poems, short stories, and journaled a lot as a child. Even throughout college I found myself randomly writing. To this day I find it hard to feel the cold keyboard below my finger tips. I miss the feel of pens and pencils. While I know blogging remains in the realm of “cold fingertips” I know now that it’s what I need to do.
A funny story to start off. I actually got in the worse trouble of my life (well, so far) because of writing down things. In high school I kept a journal. I didn’t write very often, but I wrote often enough that it meant something to me. I was never a bad kid. I got straight A’s, played sports, and rarely got in trouble with my parents. That’s probably why at the ripe old age of 15 I started coming out of my shell. I snuck out with friends and started drinking. Not a big deal, but then I decided to write about my escapades. Unfortunately, the one day I don’t hide my journal my mother finds it, reads it, grows several gray hairs, and grounds me for about 2 months. Since then, writing about my life has been a little difficult.
Recently I started writing a novel. Not because I think I’m a great writer, but because I felt like I had a story to tell. I’m sick of reading the same old crap that people make up because they think it sounds authentic. Unfortunately, it sounds like crap. Rarely do I read anything from the last five years that sticks with me for more than a day. Even Oprah has gone back to reading the classics.
So, a little more about myself. I teach middle school science after teaching high school biology for 2 years. A relative newbie to the teaching world, I have already found my exit. While I don’t intend to quit any time soon, I feel like my skills and desires to effect change in the classroom would be better suited to policy writing and/or lobbying. Not for the teachers’ union, but for the students. I think I’ve found the perfect program, but I probably won’t start for until next year. I also teach at a 1:1 school. That means all the kids have laptops. They basically use the laptop while in school, but have to return it every day before they leave. I’ll definitely be writing about those experiences. It’s quite the experience.
I feel like this is a good introduction. I hope to update regularly. Thanks for taking the time to read!

I love your site. Keep it up !
